01 / MEET DR. ROBY

Leadership grounded in learning, belonging, and opportunity.
For nearly three decades, I have worked to make higher education more effective, more accessible, and more responsive to the people it serves.
My career spans faculty scholarship, department and college leadership, and university-wide executive responsibility. As Associate Provost for Academic Innovations and Programs at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, my portfolio has encompassed five academic affairs units and more than $5 million in resources supporting academic planning, faculty development, international education, University Honors, and service learning.
Previously, I served as Assistant Vice President at Cal Poly Pomona, associate dean at Cal State Fullerton and Cal Poly Pomona, department chair, and university-wide Graduation Initiative director. These experiences inform a leadership approach that connects institutional strategy with the daily experiences of faculty and students.
A tenured full professor and founding faculty member of Cal Poly Pomona’s Educational Leadership doctoral program, I have designed graduate curricula, taught educational leadership and digital equity, and mentored doctoral and master’s researchers. My scholarship explores online learning, culturally responsive pedagogy, digital storytelling, and student belonging.
I am a graduate of the WSCUC Accreditation Leadership Academy and have contributed to institutional and educator preparation accreditation. My professional service includes the Board of Directors of ACE Women’s Network Southern California and service as chair of its separate Advisory Council from 2024 to 2026.
I hold a Ph.D. and M.S. in Education and an MBA from Georgia State University, and a B.A. in Computer Science from Clemson University. Beyond campus, I serve as a collegiate chapter advisor for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and am a chartering member of The Links, Incorporated, Central Coast–Riviera (CA) Chapter.
02 / LEADERSHIP APPROACH
I bring academic priorities, people, and resources into alignment so institutions can turn ambitious goals into meaningful progress.
Academic planning, curriculum, program review, accreditation, and shared governance that connect institutional mission with educational opportunity.
Faculty recruitment, mentoring, personnel review, and professional learning that support educators throughout their careers.
Data-informed partnerships across academic and student affairs to strengthen belonging, remove barriers, and support degree completion.
Transparent resource decisions, sustainable program models, cross-divisional collaboration, and thoughtful leadership through change.
03 / SELECTED IMPACT
STUDENT SUCCESS / CAL POLY POMONA
As university-wide Graduation Initiative director and steering committee co-chair with the provost, contributed to an eight-percentage-point increase in the six-year graduation rate through coordinated advising, analytics, faculty engagement, and strategic resource recommendations.
ACADEMIC TRANSFORMATION / CAL POLY POMONA
Led the Education Department’s quarter-to-semester conversion across ten programs. All received approval, were implemented on schedule, and appeared in the university catalog on time.
FACULTY DEVELOPMENT / CAL POLY POMONA
Secured and led a faculty-development and student-success initiative focused on high-repeat courses, reusable digital learning resources, and learning analytics to inform instructional improvement.
ACADEMIC QUALITY & INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS
Core writing team member for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s 2025 WSCUC special visit report, accepted without an on-campus review. Earlier contributions include Cal Poly Pomona’s institutional reports and NCATE (now CAEP) and California Commission on Teacher Credentialing accreditation writing teams.
04 / IDEAS & INNOVATION
Technology matters most when it expands what people can learn, create, and contribute.

RESPONSIBLE AI & ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP
Chaired Cal Poly’s inaugural AI Symposium in 2026, bringing together more than 400 participants from higher education, industry, and the community to explore AI in teaching, learning, workforce development, and society.
I invited AWS, Google, NVIDIA, Apple, and colleagues from other CSU campuses, University of California campuses, community colleges, and the CSU Chancellor’s Office to join the conversation.
That work builds on faculty engagement and AI convening at Cal Poly Pomona, connecting emerging technology with academic judgment, institutional mission, and student opportunity.

SPEAKING & CONVENING
